The President's Address, School Reform, and Getting Youth to Careers

“Already, we have made an historic investment in education through the economic recovery plan. We have dramatically expanded early childhood education and will continue to improve its quality, because we know that the most formative learning comes in those first years of life. We have made college affordable for nearly seven million more students. And we have provided the resources necessary to prevent painful cuts and teacher layoffs that would set back our children’s progress.

But we…

Building Capacity: New Technology and Getting Connected

Today, a story on the new Apple device came out on the 12noon news that already has ¼ of my friends on facebook geeked and excited about being a future owner. Haiti and the United States

In October of 2009 I as well as several others traveled to Haiti with Life For the World. Our mission was to spread light and love to the people who have seldomly been abandoned for years. While prepping for my trip and talking to professors and friends about Haiti an overwhelming amount did not know where Haiti was or had they ever heard of the country. Haiti is… Continue

Creative Idea on Ning home page

Have you looked at the Ning home page recently? They have implemented an idea that I've been interested in for many years. I first saw something like this at this Creativity Map web site.

Does anyone know what technology Ning might be using to do this?

Life After the Tragedy

On January 12th, a earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 hit Haiti 10 miles west of the capital of Port-au-Prince. Death toll predictions of this historic disaster has been estimated to around 200,000. As of January 17th, United States Agency for International Development estimated the death toll at 65,000. Because the Haitian government… Continue

Rebuilding the Haitian Spirit

Below is a letter from Mike Fedele , founder and president of Life For the World.

This is my fourth update since the terrible earthquake shook the ground Southwest of Port Au Prince and stole tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of lives, and ruined millions of others.

We founded and built Maranatha Orphanage and School in Source Matelas, Haiti eight years ago after finding unwanted and abandoned children on the streets of Port au Prince. The number of… Continue

After-school programs

Today, millions of children return to an empty home after school. When the school bell rings, the anxiety for parents often just begins. They worry about whether their children are safe, whether they are susceptible to drugs and crime. In response to this pressing concern, many communities have created after-school programs to keep children and youth out of trouble and engaged in activities that help them learn. Recent polls have found overwhelming adult support to personally ensure access to… Continue

We were overjoyed to hear that Drs. Merline Milien, Vladimyr Roseau,

Countdown to MLK Day of Service 2010

Martin Luther King Jr. was one of America’s most committed social activist in history. He fought for equality, freedom, and justice for all by organizing communities to apply principles of non-violence in order to achieve civil rights domestically. Dr. King devoted his life to social justice and taught us that through service, America’s issues of prejudice, discrimination, and poverty could be overcome. Monday, January 18th will commemorate another day of service in order to address our… Continue

Blogging Activism

“The true power of the internet is that it gives us the chance to do something different - focus on ourselves for a change. That indeed, would be visionary”. (Duchess Harris)

Today, I was successful at explaining the connection to two of our new additions to Cabrini, Eunsoo Lee and Jawon Koo. Both have currently joined the… Continue
