  • This is a web site that non profits and social entrepreneurs use to find seed money for projects. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tnp/building-a-free-collection...

Some of the ideas we have been tossing around might find funding this way. Any thoughts?

  • Hi, I've added a video attempting to screencapture recording an event in OHATS about fundraising. Can't seem to get it full screen so might use a different tool in the future and also waffled in the middle a bit when describing event actor and organisations, but if this kind of thing useful, happy to redo properly

I've put on youtube but not publicly listed.
  • Nicole. You're welcome to record the steps to OHATS. Maybe it will help us recruit people to help us manage it, while also teaching more people to take specific steps each day to achieve the goals they seek.
  • Hi Daniel, that would be fantastic, I will try and do this over the next few days
    Cheers
    Nicola
  • Nicola. Take a look at The Big Give web site. I spend a few hours last week registering, then filling out a project description, only to find out later that I needed to be a UK registered charity to be funded via their site. If you can put together a team in the UK, or find an existing partner, and develop a joint funding proposal with us, using T/MC concepts, and applying them in UK cities, you would be eligible for this funding and we would be sub-granted via your group.
  • Hi, I have started to try and pull together some thoughts on a new blog I've started in the UK yesterday: http://escapingeggshells.wordpress.com/2010/11/24/funding/

I have shared my blog on LinkedIn, Twitter, Friendfeed and Facebook. Some of my connections are in all of these, some completely different.

Once I have completed some more research I will add into OHATS. Are there any issues if I create a screen recording / video capture of the steps I take to record events ? If not, I can upload that recording and share it on video sharing sites too.
  • Here are some sections of the links library to review.

    • corporate civic engagement with benefits to companies for encouraging volunteer involvement - http://tinyurl.com/T-MC-Civic-Engagement

    • Link to research section of T/MC library - http://tinyurl.com/TMLibrary-research
Contains dozens of links to articles showing impact of poverty on high school drop out rate, and thus on business community

As you find other articles on the Internet that show why business should be involved, or showing companies recruiting volunteers and raising dollars to support tutor/mentor programs in many locations, please share them here, and/or add them as new links on the T/MC web site.
  • We have a new fund raising blog, with links to each of the major events for the year. So while the feature article shows the current Cabrini Madness campaign, the volunteers who are focusing on future events, can use this blog to point to those events.

    We have four upcoming events.

    Art Festival - april 16

    Conference, May 27 and 28

    Year end dinner, June 10

    Golf Benefit, July 15

Each offers an opportunity for supporters to make donations of $100 to $5000. People will do this, if they are asked by someone they know, and trust.

That's the role of all of our volunteers, especially our fund raising and marketing volunteers. Build a list of people you know from family, college, home town, work, etc. who have the ability to make these donation. Then find a way to build their interest in tutoring/mentoring, and the work we're doing at Cabrini Connections, Tutor/Mentor Connection.

Here are some blogs on fund raising to read for ideas of how to build support for a non profit.

    Thanks for your help.

(PS) if you're from another non profit, these ideas can be used by you where you are. In fact, if you recruit a team of volunteers you can set up a ning page, or a group in this site, and do what we're doing to focus help on your own community.

  • This is one of the holiday graphics that teens at Cabrini Connections are creating during the Tuesday evening tech club. If any of you would like to use these in raising funds for us, I can give you jpgs or you can copy them from our sites as we post them.

T/MC Membership???

I just wanted to get a discussion going about an idea we have thrown around a bit at Tutor/Mentor Connection to try to raise more consistent funds for the work we are doing. T/MC has always provided information, resources, and insights entirely free and openly. Yet as we are increasingly running into financial constrains, we are thinking it might be time to change this model. We have tossed around the idea of becoming a membership organization in which programs that benefit from our resources…

Tutor/Mentor Jam - August 29, 2010

We've added a new event, a music concert, titled Tutor/Mentor Jam, which will be held in Chicago on August 29.  The web site is http://www.tutormentorjam.orgThe timing is just before school starts, so any publicity we generate through the event can draw attention to tutoring/mentoring and encourage volunteers to use the Program Locator, or a list of programs who advertise on the Tutor/Mentor Jam page, to find places to volunteer. However, our primary goal is to raise at least $25,000 that will…

Farmer's Market CC - T/MC Booth?

Has anyone ever organized a booth at one or more of Chicago's more prominent Farmers Markets? What is sold at the booth would go directly to CC and the T/MC and could be themed to fit the season using reasonable cheap goods to raise funds and community awareness...hot chocolate, coffee, latte and warmed baked goods in Winter; Homemade lemonade and frozen/fresh berry lemonades or smoothies in the summer. I'm not certain if Farmer's Markets are year round here in Chicago, I was spoiled in LA. I…
