      Hello,

Would love to sit down with you and brainstorm some.  I'm finding it hard to keep solid hours at the site, as lately with deadlines approaching for other things associated with my graduate school, I find myself attending more workshops.  That should be all done with for a little while, and I'll be around for a good chunk of the evening today.  I'm in the back, stop on by when you got a moment.

      Joe

      Hi Karina,

In just a few weeks you'll be a full time member of the Cabrini Connections, Tutor/Mentor Connection staff! As you get closer please review the four-part strategy shown here, and here.

Each week, starting with your first week, I'd like you to reflect on each part of this strategy, building your understanding what we're trying to do, and what you can do by your own actions, to move the T/MC forward in all four steps of the strategy.

Every Friday, I'd like a reflection, and/or a report, posted on a blog, showing actions you took during the week that were intended to impact one or more of these steps. When you feel an action is important enough to document, you are encouraged to post it in the OHATS documentation system. I'll give you a password, and show you how it works when you start. You can learn about it by reading the information posted here and here.

Through this weekly process I hope that you will build a quicker understanding of the overall goals of the T/MC, and how each action you, or others, take, can lead to progress toward our overall goals of helping youth participate in high-quality, mentor-rich programs in different poverty neighborhoods. At the end of the year, this should enable you to look back, and see how much impact you've had from week one to week 52.

As you have questions, let me know.

      Hi Karina,

Thanks for joining the group, and the T/MC. Browse the various sections and you'll see many sub groups which you can join and help moderate. One of your roles will be to help this community grow, become more active, and have a greater impact on the growth of tutor/mentor programs. There are many ideas in the site that you can share, and that you can use to invite others to get involved.

As you finish your senior research I hope you'll share it here, and invite feedback from others who use this site.

    About Me:

Starting in July 2010, I will be working for Cabrini Connections, Tutor/Mentor Connections as a Northwestern Public Interest Program Fellow. I am originally from Spokane, WA which is far less rainy and less interesting than Seattle. I am finishing my senior year at Northwestern majoring in Anthropology and International Studies and minoring in Psychology. I developed a growing passion for empowering disadvantaged youth while working as an intern for an after school program for low-income elementary school kids in Spokane. While studying abroad in Bolivia in 2008, I volunteered with an organization that teaches the arts to youth living and working on the streets. Through a research grant, I had the opportunity to return to Bolivia in December 2009 to explore the interactions between youth living on the streets in Bolivia and their service providers. I am so excited to be working at CC, T/MC next year, and my past jobs have ranged from interning at a free trade organization to construction labor to waitressing. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, art, playing cello, and exploring neighborhoods in Chicago. I am thrilled to be joining CC, T/MC and look forward to learning about how to transform the lives of youth, mentors, and entire communities through tutor/mentor programs.

What do you hope to learn, or share, on this forum?

I hope to connect to others in the tutor/mentor community, learn from their experiences, and share my ideas.
