OHATS (Organizational HIstory and Tracking System) was initiated by Tutor/Mentor Connection in 2000 to track actions toward achieving the goals of the organization. The site has not been working since 2013 due to various technology problems and lack of funds to do the fixes. Use the information in this group to understand what OHATS was trying to accomplish.

The OHATS that was created in 2007 by volunteers from India has not been available since 2019. Archived versions are available, but do not provide enough information.

Thus, I was pleased to find a 2001 archive this week that describes what OHATS is, and includes links to the data-entry page, and to a page showing actions that  had been documented.  I posted the archived pages in this blog article

I feel that OHATS type documentation systems are still needed, but I find very few examples where they are being used. For the past few years I've not been able to show people what information we were trying to collect.  Thus, this archive is a valuable resource.

The team from India who built the new OHATS in 2007 used this 2001 version and a 2002 PDF report as a guild for building the new site.

That means others could do the same in 2024 or beyond.

  • Nicola Avery from the United Kingdom created this video to show people how to use OHATS. It is really good. Take a look.
  • As a new volunteer with Cabrini Connections and Tutor/Mentor Connections, I am just beginning to learn about the various aspects of the organization. After having the pleasure of speaking with Dan last Wednesday, I learned more about OHATS and the potential that it has for documenting actions that are effective in spreading information about tutoring programs and promoting them. OHATS provides a way for people to share the types of events that they use and also the perceived effectiveness. When analyzed, this can assist in guiding people to programs that have been shown to work in the past. Through using OHATS, Tutor/Mentor connections can measure which promotional techniques and events help to create positive change. It appears to me that Dan Bassill is the person that mostly enters events into OHATS, but it seems that if more people contributed, it could form a fuller analysis of efforts being made by the organization.
  • Yes. It is in the entry for key actors and organisation(s). That should make it the second stage where recorder is identified. Thanks Dan.
  • I corrected it. You mentioned that your name was misspelled. Can you tell me in what entry that was? I can correct it.
  • Dan, I just checked the recording again and the date is given as 12 - 08 - 2009, this should mean August 12, 2009 and not December 08, 2009. I'm sorry if I got the date format muddled. I hope it can be corrected?
  • Abdiel, what was the date of the interview you documented. It shows as Dec. 09 in OHATS.
  • I appreciate your encouragement Dan and thank you so much. My reports will be slow in coming for sometime until I can locate efficient internet access with good broadband to enable me record adequate. A friend sent me an advert from a Sheila Mckechnie Foundation in the UK who are willing to fund campaigns like Tutor Mentor Africa. I am interested. Will like your advice on it.
  • Thanks for posting information about the Workshop on Organisation Development for CSACEFA Kaduna Network organised by Clare Woodford. By using OHATS you show what you are doing, and show how you are using the T/MC resources. This helps us both.
  • Dan,

The password worked and I have taken a look at the recording section.

    Thanks.

Videos that introduce OHATS purpose and web site

Thanks to Nicola Avery, I've learned to use CamStudio to create videos that I can use to share ideas that I've posted as pdf essays and blog articles. This video describes the OHATS, Organizational History and Tracking System, that T/MC launched in 2000.   View the PDFthat is being described in this video and follow along as you listen.   In this link you can view videos that Nicola created as she browsed through the OHATS web site to learn its features.   Visit the other discussion sections of…

Tutor/Mentor Connection Organizational History and Tracking System

Since 2000 the Tutor/Mentor Connection (T/MC) has been piloting the use of an on-line documentation system to show the impact of its actions on the growth of volunteer-based tutor/mentor programs in the Chicago region. A this page you can read an overview of what an OHATS is and how we have intended to use it. From 2000 till 2007 we attempted to use the original OHATS which was created in 1999-2000 using a one year grant provided by a Chicago foundation. While that grant enabled us to build…

T/MC OHATS: Goals that are documented

Five interconnected strategies guide actions and events employed by T/MC: Public Awareness, research, resource building, technology, training, and networking events. Each of these strategies, and thus the events and actions that they represent, are interconnected and simultaneous. For instance, T/MC research on tutor/mentor programs characteristics and needs is not only a fact-finding activity, but also a process of building awareness of what programs exist and building a connection between…
