Profile Information

About Me:
I just returned from a wonderful fourteen month stint teaching English in Saigon, Vietnam. I learned a lot about the importance of education as well as inter-cultural relationships. My students constantly wanted to hear stories about America, the other Asian countries I've traveled to, and of my own views and thoughts of their own country. I was pleasantly surprised to see how eager and willing the students were to learn the English language. They all had a strong desire to be able to communicate with foreigners and further their future career prospects through learning to read, write, and speak English.
What do you hope to learn, or share, on this forum?
I hope to learn more about the not for profit sector now that I am back and situated in Chicago. I love working with children and hope to make a career out of helping them achieve their dreams and goals.

Update on volunteering

Yesterday I had some free time so I went into the center to make some more calls to Chicago tutor/mentor organizations. I invited them to the conference later this month and was pleased to see that a lot of them were already aware and considering attending already. They are all very appreciative of the invitation… Continue

I spent a month volunteering at the center back in December '07 and January '08, while home for winter break from the University of Missouri. Since then, I've graduated from college and spent 17 months abroad, where the majority of that was spent teaching English in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I had a wonderful experience and really enjoyed working with the… Continue

Hi Kyle, thanks for joining. You can create a profile here, like a resume, and tell of your past experiences with Cabrini Connections, and teaching in Vietnam. You can also engage with others in the forum, build relationships, and show reasons they would want to have you as part of their organization in the future. There are several Groups and you can join any that interest you. The Conference planning group is where we are trying to gather people who will help with the May and November conferences, and the on-line network building.
