I was a Commissioner on the Illinois Commission on Volunteering and Community Service from 2001-2009 and my primary objective was to motivate people to say "donate" every time they say "volunteer" so that volunteer-based organizations would have the dollars and infrastructure needed to weave many volunteers into a network of service that could have a larger impact.
We're still trying to get that message out.
