Hi Caitlin, most of the information I have focuses on programs that reach youth in elementary or middle school. My goal is to help these programs find ways to keep kids and volunteers longer so the youth have networks that support them into jobs and careers. I fee that if business were involved strategically they could support this as a way to develop the current and the future employees. If you can build a program where the youth in the job program are being mentored by people at places that might hire them that would be a step toward building and sustaining mentoring relationships that might last more than the 12 weeks.

About Me:

I just graduated from a masters program in social work at the university of Chicago and am doing some research on a volunteer basis as to whether a mentor program would be feasible to add on to an existing job training program.

What do you hope to learn, or share, on this forum?

I am considering developing a mentoring program for homeless youth ages 18-24 in conjunction with an already existing 12 week job training program. I hope to find resources for mentor training/program development through this forum.
