One of the tools you can use is the blog on your profile. If we can educate visitors to this ning on ways they can use the maps to help themselves (non profits) or to engage with the community (business) we can not only build more users, but hopefully recruit some sponsors.
The golf benefit was the best we've had in terms of numbers and weather. We had 97 golfers and 120 to 130 for the dinner. The weather was perfect. Unfortunately, I did not get to stay for the dinner because I started to get such bad chills that I could not hold a cup steady. One of our former students gave me a ride home and I had a 103 temp!
On a financial side the golf event will gross about $39,000 which is the same as 2008 and still lower than $61,000 in 2007. With more golfers and dinner guest, our costs will be higher. The difference between the past two years and 2007 was that we had 5 event sponsors at $5000 each in 2007. We had two last year and only 1 this year. That's the impact of the economy.
Which is why it is so important to find people who will be $5k and $10k sponsors of the T/MC, the mapping, the conferences, etc.
Thanks for joining us here. There is a GIS group and a fund raising group on the site and I hope you'll contribute to both. If we can draw business people and donors into these forums, maybe we can enlist them as leaders, donors, volunteers, etc.
