You all may be familiar with this, but I ran across an interesting company doing their own form of social network analysis for conferences and other events. In many ways, it is a similar way of mapping relationships to the SNA work you have been doing, but I think it is especially intended to be used prior to conferences in order for people to understand the relationships they have to one another so they are sure to connect with the right people before and after a networking event.

Kalyani posted this blog article showing the SNA work she did.

I asked her to post it as a blog so more people would be encouraged to look at it. However, I think we need to also post a reminder in this work space so it is seen as building on what has already been started. What do you all think?

Take a look at how our new interns from China have created maps of their network and personal experiences. Through this we've gotten to know them better, and we've been able to brainstorm ways they can reach out to people in their network with information about Cabrini Connections, Tutor/Mentor Connection.

Thanks Deanna, I look forward to it. I'm going to Lafayette on Wednesday to speak at a conference on Thursday. I hope that results in some folks from Purdue trying to learn and apply these ideas. If groups in other cities make some progress, maybe we'll be able to get a bit more support for what we do in Chicago.

Once this academic year is over I would like to get more involved (a few hours per week) and integrate some of your ideas with my ideas for the Violence Prevention work I am doing in Columbus, Ohio.

I think of a tutor/mentor program as a retail store, where the goods and services are age-appropriate mentoring and tutoring and learning that help kids take charge of their own lives, and help volunteers become more effective mentors, coaches, leaders and change-agents. This PDF is a diagram that illustrates that idea. A SNA map of a program could determine which, if any, of these "services" are available.
