I show this planning and event calendar on the Tutor/Mentor Institute site.
This illustrates that key events at different times each year have different purposes. Since we're in June and the school year has ended, the next event is in August/September as the 2009-10 school year begins.
In Chicago we've been building a database of Tutor/Mentor Programs for 15 years, thus, in August we're doing all we can to get businesses, churches, college groups, etc. to point their members to these programs with a "be a volunteer" message.
In other cities, you need to start building a database listing as many of the different organizations providing tutoring and/or mentoring as you can. You can use our survey questions if you'd like. These help us break down our list by type of tutoring and/or mentoring, and age group served. This is important for parents, volunteers or donors.
As you build your database, find a way to share it on the internet. If you need us to do so, we can host a list for your city on the T/MC web site like we do for Chicago. However, you could also post the list on a web site, blog or some other type of web application.
You need to be a member of Tutor/Mentor Connection to add comments!
If you look at other Groups on this site, you'll see how students from Illinois Institute of Technology and the University of Michigan have created flash animations that help people better understand the goals of the Tutor/Mentor Connection.
This strategy map is one example. When it opens, a narrator will provide some guidance for moving through the map to different sections. When you click buttons like "4 part strategy" a new map opens.
If groups of students and alumni from different Acacia chapters spend time reviewing these strategies this fall, they can begin to form leadership strategies that they launch in the spring and continue in 2010 and beyond. Let me know any questions you might have.
