As you are joining this forum, I encourage you to visit the groups and scroll through past discussions to see topics that were discussed which might be of interest.

This forum is different than many which focus on a sharing of ideas and opinions. We're doing this, but our goal is to identify actions that we each can do which would result in stronger and more consistent support for the volunteer-based tutoting and/or mentoring programs which we operate, or where we volunteer. Stronger support would lead to more experienced staff and volunteers and longer connections with youth. That's the forumula for greater impact.

One group that has been very active is http://tutormentorconnection.ning.com/group/cktmc/forum. I've had student interns from Illinois Institute of Technology and Korea, working with us since Jan. 2008. Their work is posted in the Korea Group and is of great value to us.

Thus, others who look at what interns do to support us in Chicago may get ideas for what interns can do to support you where you are, and you might be able to use some of the work done by our interns in your own activities.
We have several new members and I hope you'll introduce yourself. Three of our new members are from the University of Michigan's Alternative Spring Break program. You can read an article on the SI blog that shows their involvement with us.

Visit the Chicago Korea Group and the GIS Group (in the groups section) and you can see work that these and other interns are doing, in cooperation with other volunteers and staff supporting the mission of Tutor/Mentor Connection.

As others add their time, talent, and even dollars, we can do more to help kids in Chicago, and to share the ideas we create with leaders trying to help kids in other communities.
