Hi Steve, thanks for joining. I encourage you to read some of the articles on my blog and in the Tutor/Mentor Institute to see how we are seeking to build a non-school network of programs that connect inner city kids with an expanded range of adult mentors, role models and tutors, as well as learning and enrichment experiences. This not only helps the kids come to school better prepared for learning, but can be a network to help kids with life issues while in school and when looking for jobs. Finally, this involvement can increase the number of adults beyond poverty who understand the education challenges of inner city schools and support policy that reflects these challenges.
I'm hoping to recruit researchers looking for thesis projects to get involved and build an academic based understanding of these concepts. I hope you'll share this information through your own networks as you participate in the Ning group.
Connect knowledge, volunteers, youth and make a difference.
