Valdis Krebs, of www.orgnet.com will be in Chicago tomorrow, Feb. 25 to conduct an inFlow Social Network Analysis software training at the Tutor/Mentor Connection, 800 W. Huron.

If you're one of these people and have not introduced yourself to the group, please take a moment and do that. Following the training tomorrow, this group will be a place where we will share ideas and demonstrate the work we're doing with this software. One project will be to map the growth of this Ning group, and its sub groups, showing how a network of purpose grows through the constant invitation of some of its members.

My name is Anne Raci and I just recently learned about this SNA project. I'm a part-time graduate student in the library and information science program at Dominican University. Currently, I work as the database coordinator in the publications department of a medical association handling the publishing software, content management system, and electronic archive. I'm interested in the technical side of implementing and using the inFlow software. I plan on attending the training tomorrow morning to get a better idea of what this entails and see where my skills and background might be beneficial.
I look forward to meeting you all tomorrow and am excited by the prospect of contributing to a worthwhile program like Tutor/Mentor Connection.

Hello,

I'm Katie Anderson. I'm also a graduate student at Dominican University in the program of Library and Information Science. Currently I work at the Newberry Library, Northwestern Schaffner Library, and at a law library, all of which are very different environments! I graduated in May 09 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with a degree in English Lit. and Intl. Studies. While I obviously don't have a technical background, I'm interested in the potential that Social Networking Analysis has for identifying how social interactions impact people's lives, and how that can help to determine how to fill gaps that some people experience in their social networks. Tonight Dan brought up the idea that there are two types of relationships, those that bridge social/locational/etc. divides and those that create bonds with the immediate area around you. I think examining how 'bridging' relationships can impact individuals will be very interesting to study. I realize I am probably the weakest at using 'advanced' software programs in this group, but I will try hard to learn and keep up! I look forward to working with you all.

I encourage you to share any comments or thoughts you have from yesterday, and begin to plan a schedule for when you want to be at Cabrini Connections to continue work with the SNA inFlow software. In another discussion thread I'll describe some potential projects and I invite you to suggest others. Ahmed has indicated that he can work from 11 am to 4pm on Tuesday and Wednesday.

I don't have a very flexible schedule, but am willing to put time in when I can.
I'm consistently available during the day every other Monday, starting this Monday (March 1), and also during evening hours (after 5:30 pm) on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

I think it would be helpful to meet once more in person to develop a general plan on how to approach this, and set a couple benchmark deadlines for ourselves. Then it would be easier to be able to work independently as our schedules allow while sharing progress in this forum.

FYI: I will be out of town traveling for work the week of March 8-12.
