Hi David. There is some business sense commonality. I'm based in Africa and will be getting a location in the U.S. as well. I will check out the link.
Thanks Lisa. I've also "put the horse before the cart" since I started the Tutor/Mentor Connection in 1993 with no dedicated funding and I started the Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC in 2011 with no revenue plan and no investors. Are you based in Africa or the US?
I'm part of some Facebook groups you might want to connect with. This one is doing some work in Africa, with some live and on-line events taking place in June. https://www.facebook.com/events/328390867290523/
Hi Daniel. Thanks for your post. With regards to my organizational funding, I have supplied all funds alone by putting children through schools, purchasing of uniforms, food etc., for years specifically to Liberia, West Africa which is historically indexed for their 14 year civil war. However, because of much recent public interests, partnership interest and need to Establish Learning Centers, I find that I can no longer do it alone financially.
Funding options - I use my Public Speaking skills, build websites and perform other paid projects to assist with those needs in Liberia --small steps lead to bigger steps.
Network - will be doing Gala Events (annually) as I have diligently created a list of over 4,000 Elite clientele to include Diplomats and other top officials both in government and private sectors (this took about a year to do because I was very particular w/my selections).
*Purpose - to build confidence and trust. Let your 'actions' speak louder than 'words'.
*Plan - Gala Event 2014 working alongside with Partners to bring 'all' clientele together under one roof. People want to be engage --they have a right to know exactly where their money is going.
*Goals - Establishing more Learning Centers both in Liberia and globally. With this goal and planned strategy, I've received request from 14 other global countries to implement my programs.
*Funding - it is hard to come by in such economic times and hence, one must put themselves in a position to be creative; do for yourself so that others can appreciate and but confidence. There is a saying - don't put the cart before the horse. Well, I went against the grain, and realized that sometimes, you do have to get the cart first, and then wait for the horse :-).
*Africa banding together - There's a lot of wonderful organizations working in Africa with the same deeds/concerns. The financial terms is always were the 'glitch' is. To get funding from Liberia for example, you have to be residing there (no guarantee), but it’s not impossible either. There are many ways organizations can band together - it's not the ideas that are become the problem; it’s the 'trust'. I’m speaking ‘globally’ (not just Africa).
*My personal motto - Depend on self to bring forth your dreams; it causes you to be creative in ways you never thought possible. Be flexible in your thought process; prove self-worth before and after the funding and continue to remain consistent. Never allow ‘Funding’ to dictate your 'dreams' but rather, let your dreams be the dictator of your ‘funding’.
I hope I've made some since here, if not, consider me still 'dreaming' :-). Thanks again Daniel.
Hi Lisa. Since I started this forum in 2007 I've posted some discussion starters in the Form, such as this one asking how members of the group are finding the dollars needed to do their work. I feel that if more members are talking about the challenges they face, and the ways they are overcoming those, we might each learn new ways to work together and help our own programs grow. How are you funded and what are the challenges you face? Do you see ways for organizations in Africa to band together to innovate ways to expand support for all of them?
