I grew up on the south side of Chicago in the South Shore community. Gangs and drugs have taken over the neighborhoods I was raised in. I want to do something that will provide an outlet to the young men of my community.
What do you hope to learn, or share, on this forum?
I will be participating in a young men mentoring program at my church as a role model to deter underprivileged black youth from the streets and would like to provide a positive alternative to the streets. I am here to learn about programs and receive advice that will help provide the best possible information for the young men I will be working with.

Hi Kristopher, thanks for joining the group. We're hosting a tutor/mentor conference in Chicago on Nov. 4 and I hope you'll attend and encourage others to join. I also hope you'll learn ways to share the ideas on this site with your church and others so more people will do the intermediary work needed to help tutor/mentor programs have the staff and experience needed to help you and other volunteers become effective, long-term mentors in programs all over the city.
