Hi Carole. I was in Atlanta a couple of years ago for the National Conference on Volunteerism and I've been connected to different mentoring and volunteer groups from your area for more than a dozen years. At least one of our own Cabrini Connections volunteers is now living there. Thus, there is a nucleus of a group that could form and connect the ideas from this forum to actions in your area.

I'm familiar with the camp in Evanston. We've not done a lot of work together since our focus is a bit different, but we deal with the same issues of finding ways to keep non profits alive and thriving with inconsistent philanthropic and government dollars.

Hi Carole, welcome to the group. I've been part of a national advisory council for Mentors Inc in Washington, DC for several years. Are you aware of them? I hope that you and others from Washington will gather here, and borrow some of the ideas to help build a network of support for non-school tutor/mentor programs in your own community. Doing so might get the attention of legislators who would then support such networks in Illinois and other states.
