"I was part of the tutor/mentee program with kids from Cabrini-Green back in the 1980s.  The program played an important role in the lives of both tutor and mentee.  For the mentee, it was an opportunity spend time with, learn from, and form a connection with someone who could provide a window into a better life, and how to get there.  At a more basic level, the tutoring hours were often an important respite and refuge from scary things happening in the mentee's everyday life.  For the mentor, the program is a chance to give back and to gain perspective on life in a different world, as well as a chance to form a special bond with a young one who provided inspiration by his/her passion for learning and desire to live a better life."   Phil Roos, www.amongfriendsbakingmixes.com
