Future of Tutor/Mentor Connection

Tutor/Mentor Connection is reorganizing. Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC has been created to support growth of T/MC in Chicago and other cities. This space is to share ideas and connect people who are helping with this.

Thanks to all of our holiday donors.

In April 2011 the Board of Directors of Cabrini Connections, Tutor/Mentor Connection (T/MC) voted to no-longer support the T/MC strategy and separate the two parts of the organization.

In July 2011 Dan Bassill  has resigned his role as President, CEO of the combined organization and created Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC to support the continued operations of the T/MC as a non-profit serving the Chicago region, and to provide ideas, tools, services, etc. to support the growth of T/MC type intermediaries in other cities.

Read more at this blog.

While this group was originally created to support fund raising, I'd like to now re-purpose it as a place where volunteers who are helping think through this transition can meet and be known to others besides myself.  If you no longer want to be part of this group please remove yourself.

This concept map shows the four-part strategy of the Tutor/Mentor Institute and the work that we're trying to do. I've had interns writing about these ideas in the past and this is one role anyone can take to help.

This is a web site that non profits and social entrepreneurs use to find seed money for projects. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tnp/building-a-free-collection...

Some of the ideas we have been tossing around might find funding this way. Any thoughts?

Hi, I've added a video attempting to screencapture recording an event in OHATS about fundraising. Can't seem to get it full screen so might use a different tool in the future and also waffled in the middle a bit when describing event actor and organisations, but if this kind of thing useful, happy to redo properly

I've put on youtube but not publicly listed.

Nicole. You're welcome to record the steps to OHATS. Maybe it will help us recruit people to help us manage it, while also teaching more people to take specific steps each day to achieve the goals they seek.

Hi Daniel, that would be fantastic, I will try and do this over the next few days
Cheers

Nicola. Take a look at The Big Give web site. I spend a few hours last week registering, then filling out a project description, only to find out later that I needed to be a UK registered charity to be funded via their site. If you can put together a team in the UK, or find an existing partner, and develop a joint funding proposal with us, using T/MC concepts, and applying them in UK cities, you would be eligible for this funding and we would be sub-granted via your group.

Hi, I have started to try and pull together some thoughts on a new blog I've started in the UK yesterday: http://escapingeggshells.wordpress.com/2010/11/24/funding/

I have shared my blog on LinkedIn, Twitter, Friendfeed and Facebook. Some of my connections are in all of these, some completely different.

Once I have completed some more research I will add into OHATS. Are there any issues if I create a screen recording / video capture of the steps I take to record events ? If not, I can upload that recording and share it on video sharing sites too.

Tutor/Mentor Jam concert is this Sunday. Tickets still available. Go to http://www.tutormentorjam.org

The web site for the July 15 golf benefit is http://www.cabrinitmcgolf.org

The web site for the August 29 Tutor/mentor Jam Concert is http://www.tutormentorjam.org

The more traffic we can bring to these events, the greater the potential we'll find sponsors and donors among those who see what we're doing.

Here are some sections of the links library to review.

• corporate civic engagement with benefits to companies for encouraging volunteer involvement - http://tinyurl.com/T-MC-Civic-Engagement

• Link to research section of T/MC library - http://tinyurl.com/TMLibrary-research
Contains dozens of links to articles showing impact of poverty on high school drop out rate, and thus on business community

As you find other articles on the Internet that show why business should be involved, or showing companies recruiting volunteers and raising dollars to support tutor/mentor programs in many locations, please share them here, and/or add them as new links on the T/MC web site.
