Since July 2012 the T/MC has operated under a new organizational structure, the Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC. We're not a 501-c-3 so this makes it more difficult to attract financial support from individuals and foundations who supported us from 1993-2011 while we were a non profit. However, it also opens new opportunities for partnership.

It illustrates the process of community organizing, and shows the important role of T/MC in collecting information that others can use. Creating a video or flash that helps people understand this idea would be valuable. Jongseop Won worked on this and created this interpretation.

I'd like to create a widget that people could put on their own web sites, with links in each slice of the pie to a web page where information could be aggregated, similar to what T/MC does on its sites.

In Hee Cho worked on a re-interpretation of a Service Learning Loop project. The new version is here.

This graphic was converted to this flash presentation. This first grade to career concept map illustrates the idea differently. At each grade level, we need to show a pie chart reflecting the assets and influences that might provide more support for a youth to move to the next level more prepared than if those were not available.

These three projects that that the 2011 interns worked on are important. We will post new projects for future interns to work on.

However, there is also a role that a marketing or event planning intern might develop. Instead of one intern working on these projects, I'd like to create an on-going award program, that encourages students from all over the world to innovate their own ways to communicate these ideas. The projects announced today could be worked on by teams until March 2011, then put on a web site for display, and for public voting. The voting could go until May, and the winners could be announced at the May Tutor/Mentor Leadership and Networking Conference. At that event, we also would announce new projects for students to work on, which would be finished in time for the Nov. conference.

We could repeat this cycle each year with new ideas being worked on, or with older ideas being looked at again, with a fresh set of students.

We need someone to help us develop this idea and find sponsors so we have the manpower and dollars to execute it.
May June 2010 Project for Internstag:tutormentorconnection.ning.com,2010-05-13:783429:Topic:120782010-05-13T15:08:45.000ZDaniel Bassillhttp://tutormentorconnection.ning.com/profile/tutormentor
We will have two new interns joining us from IIT next week. If you scroll through past discussions in this group you will see work that was done by previous interns. Below is a graphic that I'd like to see our new team work on. It shows the stages kids need to go through to move from first grade to first job. In this article I point to a concept map that illustrates the same idea.

I've been trying…
We will have two new interns joining us from IIT next week. If you scroll through past discussions in this group you will see work that was done by previous interns. Below is a graphic that I'd like to see our new team work on. It shows the stages kids need to go through to move from first grade to first job. In this article I point to a concept map that illustrates the same idea.

I've been trying to illustrate this concept for many years. When people say "pipeline to careers" or "diversity pipeline" or "birth to work" I want them to think of a process like building a hotel. The blueprints would show what work needs to be done from when the land is cleared and a hole dug for the foundation, to when the building is finished and the last furniture is installed. You can't do the last step before you do the step previous.

Thus, kids won't be ready for 21st century jobs, unless the work from first grade through college or vocational school is done.

When people look at a graphic like this, they should be able to click into each grade level, and find information in a web library, that show how other people are helping kids at that grade level, and that points to places where they can share ideas and communicate with people working with kids at that grade level. It should even show donors who fund tutor/mentor programs working with kids at that grade level.

This type of information should be available for each grade level, or for groups, such as elementary school, middle school, high school, etc.

The challenge for our animators will be to try to convey this idea in a way that builds instant understanding and commitment among people who view their presentation.

Please post your questions and ideas and show your work plan once you start on this project.
