I am running the Butterfly Project in Kampala and Lyantonde, which is developing young Ugandans, who can and are creating change in their schools and neighbourhoods.

In Feb 2011 we are also planning to launch a school for social enterprise, which will add three subjects alongside the other core subjects - social enterprise, ethics and international citizenship.  We still need to raise some money for this - about £2,000 left to find (donations accepted on our web-site www.socialenterpriseafrica.org) - but we are also interested in finding partners and mentors for the new cohort from Kitgum and Lamwo starting soon.  If you feel you can contribute to the new curriculum or help in any other way with the development of the school, then please contact me.  There is plenty of other information about the Butterfly Project on-line, so browse to our web-site, if you are interested in hearing.  If you have any questions, then mail me!

Thisweb portal, titled The Communications Initiative, might be useful for organizations serving Africa, Asia, etc. The link I'm pointing to is a table you can search, by country, for funding opportunities, specific to different categories, such as children, education, etc.

If any of you find it useful, please share your experiences.

re your earlier comment on linkedin.com, I find a number of people do use this who are are social entrepreneurs. It is well organized as a network and has grown exponentially since I first joined. For people wanting a volunteer/development orientation idealist.org may suit their purposes. And then there are a number of other networks springing up like WorldPulse, My Social Actions and Changents... the field is opening up everywhere, but the basic challenge of access remains, for so many people like your Brakwa school below and the foundation I mentor to in Northern Rwanda, called Fair Children Youth Foundation (www.fairchildrenrwanda.org). Nowehere is the gap between haves and have-nots or have mores and have less more starkly illustrated currently than in our ability to connect with and utilise the benefits of internet... I'm inclined to want to turn this on its head too and ask "what are the opportunities and what is also essentially right about not being easily connected to internet?". I introduced you to the BRAKWA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL in a Nov. 12 post. Here is a message that describes their need for a modum.

"I have contacted all the Networks in Ghana concerning the Modems and they asked me to consult the Ghana Telecommunication and they said unless I register and buy from those Networks in Ghana but as for Foreign Networks because they have no Licensed in Ghana they cannot help us and these are the only Networks allowed to sell Modems in Ghana therefore I should go and buy from anyone of them. They are as follows:

NETWORKS COMPANIES
1. Vodafone Ghana Ltd @ $ 1,200.00 each and the total cost for the (3) three is $ 3,600.00

2. Tigo Ghana Ltd @ $ 1,000.00 each and the total cost for the (3) three is $ 3,000.00

3 MTN Ghana Ltd @ $ 1,200.00 each and the total cost for the (3) three is $3, 600.00

We are appealing to you, our friends and all well wishers to assist our students to get these Modems in other for them to pass their exams well because we could not get the Internet or the Modems our I.C.T. results last year was not encouraging.

Are you familiar with www.linkedin.com? It's used by business people to help them find connections to jobs. I'd like to see something like this available to social entrepreneurs in different parts of the world, helping them to connect to each other in ways that benefit each, and their clients.

I am still being mentored by some mentors here in Nigeria, I will do all I can to raise some funds, no matter how long, I will get at least one PC and an internet modem facility. Going to Ghana now may be a challenge. But I'm confident that I will do something about that Dan. I tried searching the school through Google yesterday. I just confirmed from you that the school is a bit backwards. I will ask some of my friends in Ghana about the school. I will keep you in touch. I appreciate the materials you sent to me some time ago on my project- The Corporate Menteeship. I am discussing with a Bank here in Nigeria. Thank you.

I've been in contact with a leader of this school for several years. It seems he has to go 200 miles for internet access. He seems to need some sort of modum to get on-line from the school. If you or anyone else is close enough to help him he would be able to get on-line and join this forum.

I'm not in Ghana Daniel, but Nigeria and Ghana are very close, it depends on the importance of the program and date of the event if any. I can make it to that school if I am free during such period.
